Pedestrian safety skills are crucial for children as they play a significant role in ensuring their well-being and reducing the risk of accidents while walking or crossing roads. Teaching children about pedestrian safety goes beyond just imparting rules; it empowers them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their surroundings safely. Pedestrian safety education programming is available for schools to utilize with lessons appropriate for a variety of grade levels. Safe Routes to School staff will provide free Train the Trainer education to get you started and feeling confident with skills and information. A pedestrian safety road kit is available for classroom use so students can actively practice road safety skills. Reach out to Maddy Cirineo, Safe Routes to School Coordinator, for more information (mcirineo@pps.net).
